The advantages of being Somebody Else’s Problem!

    ByAlison Hayes July 19, 2019July 30, 2019

So, I grew up reading Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series(it was considered a trilogy until he wrote a few extra books).  You don’t need to be familiar with the series to get the point of this post, but I do want to make clear that the basic concept wasn’t originally mine, but instead lovingly…

Does the government help me work after I get disability?

    ByAlison Hayes June 28, 2019October 2, 2023

In theory, the federal and state government are very supportive of people with disabilities returning to work. While the practice leaves something to be desired, you definitely can get help with expanding your training or education after becoming disabled, as long as the goal is to become more employable and return to work. Some programs…

Advocating for disability rights as a member of the community

    ByAlison Hayes June 21, 2019July 23, 2024

So often, people with disabilities are pretty much automatically ignored, put down, or ostracized by our communities. There are a lot of contributing factors, but I want to talk about some of those factors here today, as well as discuss what we can do(as individuals) to help the greater disabled community. People with disabilities are…

    Selecting a primary care physician

    ByAlison Hayes May 17, 2019December 31, 2022

I’m searching for a new primary care physician(PCP) now, and I wanted to bring you along on the journey. Using meditation to manage your symptoms

    ByAlison Hayes April 26, 2019May 17, 2022

So I have to say that meditation was not something that came naturally to me. It wasn’t something I did as a child, or something I got into as I grew up. In fact, I didn’t really try to meditate seriously until a couple of years ago. I wish I had started sooner, but am…

There are times when your friends may call on you for help or support. This may be a time of crisis for them, or during a time of extra stress. Usually, when asked, people on some level want to say yes, it’s part of how humans are socialized. Now that you are living with a…

Alison Hayes

As a person with a sometimes-invisible illness that straddles neurology and psychiatry (Functional Neurological Disorder), I've dealt with a lot of the stigma surrounding physical and mental illnesses and both visible and invisible illnesses. I want to help other people with disabilities to regain perspective and control over their lives through manageable steps and make their lives better, one step at a time.
